The most famous courtesan of antiquity, the famous Aspasia of Pericles, helped women about to give birth because she reduced the pains of childbirth!
CHAMOMILE AND CRETE
This use of oil was particularly common in Minoan Crete as well. There, they not only anointed it on pregnant women but also on babies when they had a cold!
From then until today, the Cretans are very fond of chamomile. They call it camels and it is collected "from Ai Giorgiou and Pode" and always inside "Christos Anestis". They collect it and dry it on a newspaper in a chamber and when it is dry, they sew it in cloth bags. They go ahead and put it on the baby's chest when it 'snorts'. But the Cretans also love it for another reason: they put it in their hair to lighten their color!
