HISTORY "FROM GOLD" BEHIND THE PRODUCT
About 8 km south of Kastoria and at an altitude of 660 m., Rises Argos Orestiko which is the second largest city after Kastoria. Argos means field and the first time we meet its name is in the Homeric epics! The nickname "Orestikon" is given either to the son of Agamemnon Orestes, who after the murder of his mother Clytemnestra, arrived in the area of Orestida and built Orestikon Argos or to the genus of Orestes who inhabited the area.
Later Argos gave birth to the general of Alexander the Great, Perdiccas, but also Pausanias, the bodyguard and later murderer of the Macedonian king Philip II. Thus, it occupied a key position in the pantheon of the eternal cities of the Macedonian Dynasty and the Greek territory later. Today it is a destination of archaeological, naturalistic and special eco-technical interest.
If we consider the rational view of the origin of its name that came from the mountainous and rocky province of Orestida, we understand the importance of the landscape and at a productive level. The word ''argos'' means coastal plain. and the adjective Orestikon means the rocky field. The rocky field was to become a fertile place with special soil characteristics that nourished and nourishes the roots of the highest quality legumes of the Mediterranean!
