HISTORY "FROM GOLD" BEHIND THE PRODUCT
The "melikraton" mentioned by Homer in the Odyssey and drunk by the Homeric heroes, "gave birth" to the idea of our own ''rakomelo''! From this mixture of honey and milk that Euripides, Herodotus and the monks of Byzantium drank as a fine drink, how did we get to the raki & honey of Amorgos and the Small Cyclades?
In the 12th century, the inhabitants of the Peloponnese, which was under the rule of the Franks, decided to make a traditional drink. Purpose; To serve their loved ones in moments of joy as in the weddings of their children. Or even offer it to their guests. The drink was named "rakomelo" and became widely known from the beautiful monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa in Amorgos. There every visitor enjoys a glass of rakomelo!
